This is a lady who I train twice a week. How old do you think she is ? Well she has just celebrated her 88th birthday. Health and Fitness benefits can be gained at EVERY age! The great news is that current research has now shown that shorter bouts of exercise for example two 30 minute sessions or three 20 minute exercise sessions are of the same value as a one hour session* Despite all the hype about anti-aging products, it is inevitable that we will get older. However, some of the things we lose as we age can actually be prevented, including:

Strength: Experts have suggested that muscle mass declines about 1% each year from age 30.

Endurance: As we age, we tend lose aerobic fitness and this often contributes to reduced stamina which in turn will affect our quality of life.

Flexibility: Joints change with age and this leads to stiffness, and decreased range of motion. This in turn can make the difference of leading an independent life, if you can’t bend over and put your socks and shoes on, you will be heavily dependent on others to help you.

Balance: Each year, hospitals see thousands of older patients who have fallen over and broken their hip. Balance exercises can help you avoid injuries from falls and keep you independent and mobile. Check out the balance video on the site

The good news is that the losses of strength, endurance, flexibility and balance aren’t inevitable. All these aspects of staying fit and healthy can be regained. They tend to be lost not just because we age, but because we have become inactive as we age. If you find yourself promising that you are going to get fit now that you have more time, that you will go for a brisk walk every day or join a gym but find that its not happening, then this website is for you. The recommendations are that we need to make lifestyle changes that include: keeping to a correct weight for your height, low sugar and cholesterol levels and REGULAR Aerobic Exercise. Aerobic exercise does not have to be jumping around and I hope to be able to show you how to improve on your fitness levels in a fun, safe and achievable way using the healthy hearts exercise in retirement downloads and dvd. The exercise videos, some of which will be free for you to download and do at home, are there to encourage you to stay active and healthy, giving you no excuse for not going out because its wet and cold, or even too hot!! For those who would like a DVD sent direct to you at home check out the “WORKOUTS” tab There is also a “HOW TO EXERCISE” tab at the top which shows you how to perform various exercises, including How To Get on and off the floor safely” I want to see many seniors living life to the full, so join our retirement community and see the difference being active can make to you.
